General category federations to hold protest outside Punjab finance minister’s residence

Different general category federations under the banner of  Joint Action committee General category Punjab will hold protest meeting at the residence of Finance Minister at Sangrur on March 12 against  the alleged callous attitude of cabinet sub- committee constituted by the Punjab Government towards general categories as two out of three members did not come to attend the meeting.

Shyam Lal Sharma, Chief Organiser, Sarabjit Kaushal General Secretary, Kuljit Singh Rattol President PSPCL/ PSTCL,  Jotinder Singh Jyoti, district president Sangrur    and others addressed the Press conference..

Shyam Lal Sharma said that the cabinet sub- committee called the  general category federations  for discussion on their grievances but only Aman Arora, third member of committee was present. They conveyed their feelings to him over such a state of affairs and he assured an early meeting but this has not materialized till today.

General category employees and members from other organisations from all the districts in Punjab will join protest rally in large numbers at Sangrur.

The Punjab government has not appointed the chairman and other supporting staff for the smooth functioning of the General Category Welfare Commission for the last one year.

Sarabjit Kaushal and Kuljit Singh Rattol said that the Punjab government has collected the   fresh data for the year 2021 and it is understood that it is in excess of their prescribed percentage. The data collected by the government should be published for the information of all to know the real position of adequacy. As per 2018 data the percentage of reserve category employees in group A posts is 22.34%, 19.9% in group B posts, 24.34% in Group C posts and 31.58% in group D posts against 14% limit.

They also requested her to not implement the 85th amendment in the state and to stop reservation benefits to the creamy layer amongst SC/ST employees.

“It is pertinent to mention here that the notification of December 15, 2005, to implement the 85th amendment has already been quashed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court due to non-compliance of conditions imposed by the Supreme Court,” VK Gupta, spokesperson for the federation, said.
