OBITUARY: GIEAIA remembers and pays tribute to our beloved leader, Comrade Kaka Samant, across the country-Trilok Singh

Comrade K.S. Samant (Kaka), born on 2/7/1936, who for left his heavenly abode on 01/10/2024. He was a close associate of Comrades K.S.B Pillai, J.G. Kothary, Ravindernathan, Madan Mohan, and our living legend, Comrade M.S. Uppadhya. These stalwarts relentlessly fought for the nationalization of public sector general insurance companies. Comrade Samant further dedicated his life to the service of public sector general insurance companies, their employees, and pensioners.

Comrade Kaka Samant authored a significant book on the historical struggle of the General Insurance Employees All India Association since nationalization. He was also instrumental in releasing a photo documentary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Mumbai on his 100th birth anniversary.

In his early days, Comrade Kaka Samant participated in a gathering in Mumbai during the freedom struggle, which was addressed and led by the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. He later played a historical role alongside Comrade K.S.B. Pillai, the first General Secretary of General Insurance Employees’ All India Association GIEAIA, who participated in the historic naval mutiny against the British during the freedom struggle.

Comrade Kaka Samant fought for rational and progressive values and dedicated his  life to GIEAIA, GIPAIF and the working class movement.He was a close associate of AITUC and participated in the various struggles led by the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC).

The GIEAIA dips its flag in sorrow at his sudden demise.

GIEAIA appeals to its entire leadership and units to mourn the loss of Comrade Kaka Samant, remember his invaluable contributions, and pay respectful tribute to our leader, mentor, philosopher, and guide. Let us honor his legacy and his contributions to public sector general insurance companies, the workforce, and society at large.

We urge GIEAIA leadership to organize meetings throughout the country to reflect on his values and carry forward his great legacy for the public sector general insurance companies and their workforce.

OBITUARY: GIEAIA remembers and pays tribute to our beloved leader, Comrade Kaka Samant, across the country-Trilok Singh added that the GIEAIA leadership pledges to uphold his values and continue the fight for socialist principles, for the deprived and downtrodden, and to protect and strengthen PSGICs and to fight for the rights and dignity of the employees, officers, and pensioners in PSGICs.
