To avoid traffic congestion in the national capital, state transport authority of Government of NCT, New Delhi has issue a new corridor to facilitate commuters arrived at Indra Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi.

The new route for the passenger buses operating to and from Punjab shall reach or operate to / from the IGI airport, Delhi via Singhu Border-Captain Vikram Batra Chowk(Mukarba Chowk)- Madhuban Chowk- Janakpuri District Centre- Dhaula Kuan, Aerocity Underpass-IGI Airport staging Area.

New route enmarked for Punjabis to travel to IGI Airport, New Delhi. Due to non functional of Mohali / Chandigarh and Amritsar international airport for international flights on key routes, all the traffic from Punjab, Chandigarh etc goes to IGI airport, New Delhi.

“Mohali /Chandigarh International Airport already caters to the growing demand of the people of neighbouring states of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, J&K besides UT Chandigarh. The Airport has the basic facilities for handling the wide bodied aircrafts like Boeing 777 equipped with CAT-IIB instrument landing system besides latest airport infrastructure for handling international flights. Despite this the successive government fails to start the international services on key routes from this airport.” said Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Mohali

“The centre and the Delhi govt is not interested in allowing the international flights to start from Mohali/ Chandigarh international airport or Amritsar airport as Delhi’s , Haryana’s economy largely depends on Punjab travelers, Diaspora. That’s why they play dilly-delaying tactics in allowing the local international airports of Punjab to operate international flights.  Large number of hotels, transport, eating joints etc depends upon Punjab and other northern state travelers. If Amritsar or Mohali/ Chandigarh airport starts international flights on key routes where Punjabi NRIs live, their business will suffer. Even some hospitals in and around Delhi are catering Punjabi NRIs. This order of the state transport authority of government of NCT, Delhi clearly shows that how large numbers of vehicles are coming to/ from Punjab, adding traffic hazards in the national capital. That’s why they enmarked a separate corridor for heavy and medium passenger vehicles plying on the inter-state routes” said Parminder Singh, a resident of New Delhi.
