Patiala Southern Bypass Update: district administration forms committee to redress grievances

Patiala district administration has formed a six member committee to redress the issues of villagers whose land has been acquired by the state government, national highway authority of India (NHAI) for the construction of Southern Bypass in Patiala.
As per SDM, Patiala Arvind Kumar ‘we have formed the committee to sort out the issues of farmers, whose land has been acquired. Some of the farmers had submitted their issues that their land is divided, no approach road is left to their fields etc etc. To access the issue a committee has been formed. We have asked the all the farmers, villagers who have any issue, can submit their grievances and the committee will visit the area to check the on ground reality. We have asked all the farmers whose land was acquired for Southern Patiala Bypass to submit their grievances in the office of SDM, Patiala, District administrative Complex, Patiala latest by 5:00 pm on May 31,2024.”
When asked about the committee to consider other issues like compensation , Kumar said “ no this committee will redress their this particular issue only.”
As per available information the administration has formed this committee after the farmers had taken up these issues with the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the court has further ordered the deputy commissioner to sort the issues on priority. Later the deputy commissioner had formed a six member committee on May 13,2024 comprising SDM Patiala as the Chairperson, Theshildar, Patiala, Executive Engineer, National Highway, PWD, Punjab, Manager (Tech) NHAI, Deputy Manager (Tech) NHAI,any representative of Patiala southern Bypass Affected association before the high court as members of the committee.

An officer on the condition of anonymity said “this is a one time opportunity given by the district administration in compliance to Punjab and Haryana High Court. No further grievance in this regard will be entertained after May 31,2024 from anyone.
