Protest against privatization intensifies after 501 days

The protest against electricity privatization in two power distribution companies of Uttar Pradesh has completed 501 days  and after a meeting of different state associations it has been decided to intensify the agitation. In case no corrective measures are taken by the UPPCL there may be problems with continuous power supply in the coming summer .

V K Gupta media advisor All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF)  informed that a  meeting of the Vidyut Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, Uttar Pradesh was held  in Lucknow, with participation of over 500 power employees and engineers from across the state all office bearers of employees unions  and  engineers Association.

Shailendra Dubey convener said that if all victimization actions taken against power employees during the ongoing movement are not immediately withdrawn, the top management of Power Corporation will be fully responsible for any disruption in electricity supply during the coming summer. .Joint meetings will be held with consumers and farmers in every district to expose the ongoing victimization and to highlight that despite 501 days of continuous struggle, employees have ensured uninterrupted service to consumers.

Strong protests will be organized at all Discom headquarters against continuous victimization of employees, large-scale retrenchment of contract workers and reduction in regular workforce under vertical restructuring.

Dubey said  that despite clear directions given on 19 March 2023 by the Energy Minister to withdraw such actions, not only were they ignored, but new victimization measures are being imposed, indicating a push towards privatization.
