PSPCL in saving mode: shuts its 4 thermal units, 20 hydro units due to low power demand

Due to prevalent weather conditions in the region and low power demand, Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) has shut down its 4 thermal units and 20 hydro units.

This seasons highest demand of 11,255 MW was registered on May 1,2025. But with the change in weather, the demand reduced to 7716 MW on May 5,2025.

During last year on same day, May 1,2024 the power demand was 8864 MW. Last year the demand crossed 11,000 MW mark was on May 15,2024 when 11, 779 MW was registered.

Today, the maximum demand was registered as 8285 MW at 7:00pm. Out of these, around 4733 MW power is generated from all sources of powercom, rest is from central pool.

Today, out of 4 units of 210 MW each at GGSSTP, Ropar one unit of 210 MW is closed.Out of 4 units of 210 MW each at GHTP, Lehra Mohabbat, two units of 210 MW each are closed. Out out of 2 units of 270 MW at GATP, Goindwal sahib, one unit of 270 MW is closed.

Similarly out of 32 hydro power stations, 20 hydro stations are closed.

The two private power plants-Nabha Power Limited, Rajpura in Patiala district and Talwandi Sabo Power Limited, Talwandi Sabo in Mansa district are running in their full capacity.
