Punjab cadre retired IAS officer appointed as the Ambassador of India to Southeast European country

Government of India has appointed Arun Goel, retired IAS of 1985 batch of Punjab cadre and former Election Commissioner of India as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Croatia. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly.
Goel had resigned as Election Commissioner on March,2024, just before the beginning of this year parliamentary elections. Today, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has appointed him as India’s Ambassador to Croatia, six months after he abruptly resigned from the Election Commission
Goel, a 1985-batch IAS officer of Punjab cadre had taken voluntary retirement on November 18, 2022, and was appointed Election Commissioner a day later. He was working as a secretary Heavy Industry and on deputation to Central government, from where he resigns.
Born on December 7, 1962, in Patiala, Goel did his Masters in Science in Mathematics and was awarded the Chancellors Medal of Excellence for securing the rank of First Class First and Record Breaker throughout in all the examinations.
He also did his Post Graduation with Distinction in Development Economics from Churchill College, University of Cambridge, England and was trained at John F Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, USA.
