Two more universities of Punjab go headless

After Punjab’s renowned universities, namely-Punjabi University, Patiala, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Singh Punjab Technical university, Bathinda, Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur, Sardar Beant Singh State University, Gurdaspur, Guru Ravidas Ayurved University, Hoshiarpur remains headless ranging from six moths to four years,working without regular vice chancellors now another reputed university of the state Guru Nanak Dev University and Sri Guru Teg Bahadur State University of Law, Tarn Taran also go headless, without any vice chancellor.
The extended term of incumbent vice chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University , Amritsar and Sri Guru Teg Bahadur State University of Law, Tarn Taran, Dr Jaspal Singh has ended on November 16,2024. After getting no directions from the state government, he forwarded his relieving letter on Monday 18,2024 to the concerned department, officials.
Now, the university has no regular vice chancellor. The chancellor office (Governor of Punjab) has not issued any order of giving officiating charge of both the universities to secretary higher education.
At present the charge of vice chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala is with principal secretary higher education KK Yadav, IAS, since April 25,2024.The one month extended term of acting vice chancellor, KK Yadav, IAS is also going to end on November 25,2024.
Dr Sandeep Kansal, a senior most faculty member is holding the officiating charge of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda.
Rahul Gupta, IAS, Additional Secretary, Department of Medical Education and Research is holding the additional charge of vice chancellor, Guru Ravidas Ayurved University, Hoshiarpur
Interestingly, no regular vice chancellor is appointed at Sri Guru Teg Bahadur State University of Law, Tarn Taran since its inception in August 2020. From the day one, the charge of vice chancellor of this university is with Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Dr Jaspal Singh. Similarly, Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur is without regular vice chancellor since its inception.
Dr. Susheel Mittal is the only vice chancellor who holds the charge of three universities. He is the vice chancellor of I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, Kapurthala/ Jalandhar and holds the additional charge of vice chancellor of two universities namely Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur and Sardar Beant Singh State University, Gurdaspur.
The extended term of vice chancellor, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala is also going to end in coming around two weeks.
The university have regular vice chancellors are Punjab Agriculture, Ludhiana, Baba Farid University of Health Science, Faridkot, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, MBS Punjab Sports University, Patiala.
