Central University Punjab’s VC Prof. Tiwari to be honored by Punjab Kala Sahitya Academy

It is a proud moment for the Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) , Bathinda as its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari, is set to be honored with the “Rashtriya Shiksha Ratna Award” by the Punjab Kala Sahitya Academy. This prestigious recognition will be conferred during the Academy’s 28th Annual Awards Ceremony on December 1, 2024, acknowledging Prof. Tiwari’s remarkable contribution and dedication to education spanning over four decades.
Since assuming the role of Vice-Chancellor at CU Punjab in August 2020, Prof. Tiwari has significantly contributed not only to the university but also to Punjab’s education and cultural domains. He has represented Punjab at national and international platforms in education and research while promoting Punjabi culture and the teachings of Sikh Gurus.
Under Prof. Tiwari’s leadership, the Central University of Punjab has achieved remarkable milestones. The university earned an “A+” grade in the second cycle of NAAC accreditation, solidifying its academic excellence. It secured the 83rd rank in the 2024 NIRF rankings in the “University” category and has consistently featured among the top 100 universities in India for six years. In the pharmacy category, the university was ranked 23rd in 2024, marking its third consecutive year among the top 30 pharmacy institutions. The contributions of CU Punjab’s faculty and researchers were recognized globally, with 17 faculty members and one researcher being listed among Stanford University’s “Top International Scientists of 2024.” CU Punjab students also showcased their talent by winning the 16th National Youth Parliament Competition under the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. Further, the university achieved third place in the “Best Institution for Campus Usage” category at the National Water Awards 2022 and obtained ISO 9001:2015 certification for quality management systems. These accomplishments reflect the university’s commitment to excellence under Prof. Tiwari’s guidance.
Prof. Tiwari firmly believes in the inspirational value of Sikh Gurus’ teachings for guiding the youth toward an ideal life. Under his leadership, the university has undertaken several initiatives to propagate these teachings. The “Hind Di Chadar Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sikh Studies Section” was established in the University’s central library to promote awareness of Sikh heritage. The university regularly organizes special events to commemorate Gurpurabs and Jyoti Jot Diwas, fostering a deeper connection with Sikh traditions. On the 554th Gurupurab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the university organized a seminar titled “The Teachings and Global Vision of Guru Nanak Dev Ji” and released a book, Sudiksha – A Tribute to Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Additionally, Prof. Tiwari has contributed several articles in leading newspapers and journals, focusing on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and the sacrifices of the Sahibzadas. Furthermore, the university is actively working on a publication dedicated to the life and philosophy of Dashmesh Pita Guru Gobind Singh Ji, reinforcing its commitment to preserving and promoting Sikh teachings.
Born and raised in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, Prof. Tiwari exemplifies an eco-friendly and simple lifestyle. Over his academic career, he served Mizoram University for 31 years in various academic and administrative roles and led Dr. Harisingh Gour University, Sagar, as its Vice-Chancellor for over five years, where he also completed his post-graduation. For the past four years, he has been serving as the Vice-Chancellor of CU Punjab. Additionally, he has held key positions in various high-level committees formed by the Ministry of Education and UGC and is currently entrusted with additional responsibility as Director of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla.
