25 kg gold worth Rs. 8.50 crore seized by Fatehgarh Sahib Police

It seems bad elements are facing a tough time in these Lok Sabha election. Though the elections in Punjab were scheduled for May 19, but Punjab Police is busy in seizing unaccounted cash, old currency notes, foreign currency, drugs, hawala money, almost daily.

Today Fatehgarh Sahib Police claimed to have caught 25 kg of gold worth Rs. 8.50 crore during the checking. Two people are arrested and their inquiries continue. It is being told that these people had given a Tata-407 look for cash van and four people were in it.

DC Prashant Kumar Goyal and SSP Aminit Kondal said that during the checking on Saturday late evening, a Tata-407, which was like a van carrying the bank’s cash, was checked. Four people, including driver, were in the van, two of the armed security personnel and the third person named Jai Prakash was the BRICS India Private Limited transport company. When the van was examined, 25 kg gold was found from it. The registration number of the vehicle on the bill was different from that of the vehicle in which the gold was being transported, police said.

According to the bill shown during the investigation, the gold was to be sent from Uttarakhand to Amritsar, but the people in the van had said that gold was to be delivered at Ludhiana. The police have given information to the income tax department about the recovery of gold. The gold has been handed over to the Income Tax department for further investigation, police said.
