“Vascular trauma needs to be treated on time. Any delay can lead to loss of blood, sometimes a large amount or formation of a blood clot (thrombosis) thus a possibility of gangrene . Treating vascular trauma can help to save the limp and avoid amputation of limp and life.”
Dr. Suresh Singla, Director-Ortho at Ojas Hospital, Panchkula stated this today.
He said further that timely treatment in compound fracture or open fracture is very important. If a patient with compound fracture with vascular trauma or damage to a blood vessel fails to get treatment in 6-hour, then there are higher chances of him or her to get the complications including infection, maintained Dr Singla.
Compound fracture is a broken bone that penetrates the skin. Because of the risk of infection, there are more often problems associated with healing when a fracture is open to the skin.
Meanwhile in past 6-month the three cases of compound fractures with vascular injury have been provided timely treatment at Ojas.
Recently a man has undergone a successful surgery for compound fracture at Ojas where the broken bone in lower part of his right leg, which came out open after an accident, has restored inside successfully.
