Rupnagar DC directs Health Deptt to provide counselling services to drug addicts

Rupnagar Deputy Commissioner Dr.  Preeti Yadav on Wednesday directed health department to provide counseling services to drug addicts by forming groups of drug addicts at treatment centers and ooat clinics under the drug de-addiction program.

While presiding over a meeting with the officials of the Health and Family Welfare Department, the Deputy Commissioner told the Civil Surgeon that besides treatment, there is a need to motivate the patients to quit drugs for which it is imperative that in addition to doctors,  recovered patients should be specially invited in such sessions.

Deputy Commissioner further said that the project ‘Umeed’ has been launched by the district administration to provide self employment opportunities to the patients who are getting treatment under de addiction program. She said that registered patients would be imparted free skill development education courses.  Allowances and food will be provided patients.

Rupnagar DC directs Health Deptt to provide counselling services to drug addicts. She said that it is also necessary that the patients who were skipping treatment for any reason should be contacted and encouraged to get treatment again.

Deputy Commissioner said that the recovered patients also need motivation to build self-confidence and to live a life without drugs as they do not start taking drugs again.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Parminder Kumar, Deputy Medical Officer Baldev Singh, DSP Narinder Chaudhary, District Social Security Officer Amrit Kumari and senior officers were present in the meeting.
