“Meri Maati Mera Desh” program initiated at GCE 20 Chandigarh:  NSS Cell plants 125 fruit trees

The NSS Cell of the Government College of Education, Sector 20, Chandigarh initiated the Meri Maati Mera Desh program with solemn festivity. The guests of the day were Captain Harveer Singh (Retd.) , Rahul Mahajan – the famous Tree Man of Chandigarh, the State Bank of India (SBI) Team from the Regional Office, Chandigarh – including  Pawan Kumar, Manager, Santosh Kumar, Dy Manager,  Ravi. The SBI Team provided 125 fruit trees to the college planted in three phases.

Principal of the Government College of Education,Sector 20,Chandigarh Dr Sapna Nanda welcomed the guests.  Ananya Nautiyal, NSS Volunteer – Environment Wing led the pledge- “Panch Pranh Pratigeya” in commitment to the Nation. Fruit trees were planted by the guests, faculty, NSS volunteers and the support staff.

Discussions with Retd. Captain Harveer Singh led to appreciating the tough life of soldiers and the role education can play towards patriotism. The expertise of the Tree Man led to seeding ideas for various thematic gardens in future for the college. He committed to developing a strawberry garden and an automatic vatika on the college campus. The SBI officers in their community engagement offered support for future endeavours too.

Dr Ravneet Chawla, incharge NSS of the Government College of Education,Sector 20,Chandigarh extended deep gratitude to the guests and expressed interest in the future partnerships.

“Meri Maati Mera Desh” program initiated at GCE 20 Chandigarh: NSS Cell plants 125 fruit trees. Ravinder Kumar, NSS PO, summed up the programme for the upcoming events and appreciated the efforts of all including the NSS volunteers to mark the initiation of MMMD. The other volunteers placed in the internship in various schools also created the tree plantation drive in their respective schools.
